I purchased this on March 28, 2015 for $3.97 and have used it many, many times and I find this jewelers loupe to be completely adequate. The lens on mine is clear and free of anomalies. I cannot verify whether or not it magnifies to 40 power, though, not to say that I doubt it does magnify to that degree. The loupe came with 3 LR927 batteries, a loupe case with a clear plastic top and a black plastic bottom, and a battery cover removal tool. The loupe also features a light to enhance observation. The body of the loupe is constructed mostly of plastic whilst the lens guard is constructed of a non-ferrous metal, (doesn't contain iron) perhaps aluminum. The light is quite bright and useful. Be aware of were the light bulbs are pointing when turning the light on as the switch is on the same side as the two light bulbs. Overall, This loupe is a keeper.
Quick disclaimer: shipping was SLOW for this, so slow I had decided to report it not delivered. (We're talking over a month.) However, it DID show up just when I was ready to throw in the towel, and it's exactly what I wanted and needed. It's such a killer value for a great little loupe, I consider it well worth the wait.
This illuminated jeweler's eye loupe from champper is a folding, compact tool that arrives in a simple plastic case. In addition to the loupe, the case's fitted liner holds a small metal circle with two tiny tabs. Don't toss that! It's a small tool to open the battery compartment. The LED bulbs are super bright. Since we're using them for stone identification, hallmarks, and other small details, the combination of bright light and good magnification works wonders. This loupe is a great tool anywhere you're trying to get a close-up view of small details. Its size means you can ft it into small areas, and it easily fits into your pocket, case and all. The 10x magnification is perfect for most close-up purposes. I can't say much in terms of how it would shake out in ranking gemstones, but for everything I need, it's perfect.
Ok, you don't get Bausch & Lomb or Karl Zeiss for the tiny amount of money you just spent, let's get that out of the way. ;)
But that's not a dig as only a fool would expect that quality at this price point. What you do get is a surprisingly nice little all plastic magnifier.
Decently wide field of view for the device's power, excellent magnification and a built in LED light you can use as an emergency flashlight (I'm not kidding, the thing is perhaps too bright for the tasking.)
I'm not an optical expert but the lens shows no distortion I can see from center to edge and the image is very clear with or without the light.
The only negative is the switch is awkwardly placed next to the LED bulb and a bit hard to operate.
The lens comes in a decent, plastic, form fitting case and includes a tiny little pin spanner that you will need to open the little hatch to replace the batteries.
Don't lose it! Unless you are a very serious tech with a huge array of drivers, you probably do not have a replacement available at least not unless you work with optics a lot or security screws in smallish sizes.
For the money, it's a handy tool for anyone who needs to *really* get in for a close up. If you're out shopping for jewelry, whip this out. It won't impress the jeweler, he or she has stuff a heck of a lot better, but it will give you a good look at stuff.
Oh and I'd not call this a "loupe" as you can't hold it with your eyebrow clenched down on it to keep both hands free. It's a largish, standard folding magnifier about an inch and a half across the longest part of the thing (including the hinge). So if you do need that kind, look elsewhere. The picture shows it as it is but some people just don't bother to look.
I have several loops and macroscopes and for $2 this thing is a bargain!!! The light is powerful and bright, maybe 20 lumen output from to small LED's. Emitting a cold clear light a bit too high on the kelvin scale, over 6000k as it gives a bluish tint.
But the loop works incredibly well! Once you get the right distance the clarity is phenomenal!!!
I don't think it enlarges to 40x but much more than the standard 10x loop, this one maybe 20x-30x?
It took a month to arrive as it came direct from China but well worth it the $2.40 in the end.
Also it is about 40% larger than the typical loop, my other loops the glass in around the size of a nickle but this one is the size of a quarter.
Works well for reading small symbols on silver. Illumination helps. Not sure how long the light will last though. Doesn't seem to be any easy way to change lights though there is some kind of plate on the back that appears removable. I'm not ready to take chances with breaking it yet. Comes with what appears to be some kind of tool for releasing the removable disk. I'll have to do more research when I find it necessary to get into the loupe..

Worth way more than the battery that is inside it so you cant go wrong unless you need it right away. It seemed like it took so long to come, but it arrived sooner than it was expected. I had wanted a loupe for a long time, but had assumed they would cost more than I would be willing to pay. 40x25 as applied to optical devices such as these means it will magnify 40x, and the diameter of the lens is 25mm. not that it will necessarily focus at that distance. It WILL ALLOW YOU TO SEE VERY TINY THINGS IN GREAT DETAIL. If you can hold it still enough and get it focused right, you may find you can then pull your eye further away from the lens(while keeping everything else perfectly still and focused), up to 12 + inches away and see incredible detail, likely how the one reviewer was able to verify the GIA certification of a diamond(I haven't seen those, out of my price range!). My only concern is questionable status regarding oddly cubically shaped cellphone cover gifts from chinese industrial park. Perhaps this item is worth much more from a domestic supplier or if one were to give it to a stranger. So thats what I did with mine, so now It truly is a Gift. Take that Tax man.
It's a fish-eye view. The focal is about 1 inch from the object. It comes in a plastic box. The light is not angled to the center of the lens so you will see a bright spot where the light shines. The light on/off switch is on the same side as the light; don't look at it when you turn on the light. You will be blinded by the light. The light is really, really bright. They should put the on/off switch opposite the light. Magnification doesn't seem to be 40X, but I don't have anything to compare it to. Anyway, it serves its purpose.
Well made and the light us very useful. If only I could remember where I put it! Caution! Keep the case as it holds the battery cover open/close thingamajig! Oh Yes! It magnifies stuff.
This is a lighter weight version of the original heavier weight Japanese jewelers loupe. It doesn't feature the UV light selection, but the white LED lights are bright. So far, it seems quite solid & rugged enough (for a light weight product). And I'm sure it's not quite 40x magnification. But it should suit all your home & professional needs, whether it be jewelry inspection, coin examination, or fine print on a document. And the price it certainly a bargain.
For the price and what it is; it is a great deal; I could not ask for more. The listing is a lie however in that it states the item is made of stainless steel and optical glass. Let's try aluminum and plastic. The only problem I had that one of the loupes did not turn on out of the box and I have to remove and reinsert the batteries after adjusting the negative contact to get the light to operate. Otherwise it is hard to complain and the Loupe functions great The main complaint I have is that the company does not ship to Hawaii or Alaska. Considering Hawaii is only half as far as the Mainland is from China it makes no sense. I had to ship this item to my parents house in Pennsylvania and have them forward it to me in Hawaii.
