This kit is a great starter kit. The acids are pretty standard and the stones are ok. The loop and diamond tester are not to bad either but I would not rely 100% on the tester. This is a conductivity tester and you can be fooled if the unit is set improperly or you are not using it correctly. Also, they are some stones like Moissanite which can register just like a diamond on this device. I would recommend using this tester as a starting point to rule out potential costume and junk jewelry first, then proceed with other techniques to help with validation of a diamond such as using a loop to verify the cut and etc.
Great kit for the money. Took the kit to my local pawn shop and the owner said I did real good on the purchase. He really liked the diamond tester and said it was as good as the ones he paid, $100 for. There's a fake stone that starts with an (M) that the tester said was a diamond. The store owner explained, the tester checks for hardness and it would take a person with training to detect the (M) stone as a fake. I gave him the infor on Amazon and he intends to order some for himself.
The test kit works well. I've used it to test various karats of gold and 2 purity of silver. I have not tried the platinum test yet. The diamond tester works well as long as you read the directions which it appears most people don't based on the reviews. The large scratch stone is a real upgrade over the basic 2x2 that most kits come with.
As described, but if you have never done before all is trial and error. Like there is no color graph to go by or anything like that. Just words that say if this or if that......some times i can be confusing. Probably would have given 5 stars if it weren't for that. Def not a kit for someone who is just starting out.
