So here's the thing. I went through about 6 of these to figure out the best way to work with them. Once you get a feel for them, they are awesome! They are a soft aluminum and take the stamp very well. They are a bit rough around the edges but all you need to do sand them with some sand paper and you are good to go. One side is covered with a protective sticker which is nice because you can stamp right onto the sticker and have the surface protected. You can even mark your spacing on the sticker. It peels right off after stamping. They are little thicker than I expected but it's really actually pretty cool. If you are looking for something that is polished and delicate looking these might not be what you are looking for. They are a bit more rugged. I'm sure if you have more complicated jeweler tools/gadges (polishers etc.. ) you can get them to be more dainty. I'm having fun with them. They take texture super well and it's easy to shape and re-shape them with a dappling block. For the price, you can't beat it! I'm going right now to order the 1.5" version as well. Thanks RMP!
I have been purchasing blanks from RMP for some time. These are a lightweight aluminum which makes for easy font stamping. On the other hand this also makes them susceptible to scratches. Not a huge draw back as that is expected to happen with use over time. I like that they do not tarnish or yellow. I also enjoy the pre drilled holes which makes for less work on my end and cuts my time in half. Each piece comes with a protective sticker and I haven't had any issues with scratched or damaged pendants upon delivery. Overall the quality is great and worth every penny. Very well priced and I will continue to order this product.
I must say after reading the other review on this item I almost didn't buy it, but because i wasn't using the blanks for jewelry but a project i only needed one side for I decided to buy it anyways... and im glad I did!!!!! The "stamped side" the other reviewer was referring to is actually a sticker you peel off which reveals a beautiful protected side for stamping!!! I will also be ordering more to make my jewelry with as well!!
They work well with the simple stamps and hammer I've been using - don't take too much force. They're thick enough to not show through to the other side, which is nice. The protection on one side of the blanks is a nice touch too, so you get at least one totally unscratched side (though I haven't seen any with scratches on the other side either). Not the fanciest color or metal, but good quality and quantity for the price.
This is my second order. These blanks are easy to work with, come with sticker coverings to avoid scratches to the face and easy marking to reduce waste. I bought these to make custom dog identification tags using metal stamps. They work great and are offered at a great price. I just do it for a hobby, so It is decent enough quality for me. I haven't encountered any issues yet, I will update my review if I do.
