Orion Motor Tech Upgraded 40W Co2 Laser Engraving Cutting Machine, 12" x 8" K40 Desktop DIY Wood Laser Engraver Cutter (Upgraded Version)(Red)

Orion Motor Tech Upgraded 40W Co2 Laser Engraving Cutting Machine, 12

Great Item, Work Perfect. Thanks.

This is so amazing. We need to have Chinese appreciation week. It came nicely packed and was delivered with free Prime shipping to Hawaii in three days. I set it up, turned it on, and zip-zap it worked beautifully! I used the LaserDRW program that comes with it. without CorelDRAW. If you are scared by bad reviews you are missing out. There's a little bit of a learning curve. But, hey, it's a laser. There is plenty of documentation from people online who have figured it all out. An online store has a lot of accessories designed with this model in mind. I used acrylic the first time. A piece of it came with it. Then I tried 1 mm Delrin (acetal) and promptly made a hole (instead of a grid array) which caught on fire. I was able to blow it out after I removed the piece. So when they say get a fire extinguisher and add the extra ground wire, do what they say. Now I am working on learning how to set the power and speed to make the best cuts. Enjoy!

P.S. Don't lose the dongle! It's the small USB flashdrive looking thing. It protects the LaserDRW software and the laser won't work without it. The air blower is weak and it gets stinky when cutting polycarbonate and certain other plastics. A bolt in the air blower was missing its nut and fell out so I had to fix it before setting up the laser. No big deal. I am going to upgrade the air blower with these:

For some reason, which could be me, it doesn't start engraving far enough back and I went through a few sheets of wood, because the image didn't fit on it. Most of the time it engraves flawless, but every now and again it engraves with lines. It is very quiet and fumes are not bad at all.

Overall good so far. Took a bit of figuring out, but is working well.

Install the software, and the USB is a product key. So it needs to be inserted into the computer to have license to use the engraver.

Online tutorials helped. Will update more later.

I think you have to approach this product for what it is. Yeah, there were definitely some corners cut and it's a littly janky, but you have to remember you're using a laser for $400 when your options for the next step up usually cost more than a grand. Sure, some of the electronics are a little wonky and a few components are cheap but . . . it's a $400 laser.

I've had a ton of fun starting to make cuts so far. My biggest issue with following the included instructions (both the manual and the videos included on a CD disk) centered around lining up the laser mirrors. I had to reach out to Orion for support and they answered my question quickly and were very friendly and helpful. You have to ensure the three mirrors are properly aligned so the laser beam bounces around and comes out of the head appropriately. The process is a bit fiddly and between that and setting up the fan, water, etc., total setup took over an hour. Once it was set up, though, the results have been pretty fantastic. Now I'm learning more about the software, etc. and I'm surprised at the great results I'm already getting.

One area of opportunity: it'd be great if they included a frame and measuring rulers for the total engraving area. You can figure it out using the software and moving the head around, but giving us measurements off the bat would be a great way to make lining up things easier.

Still, I'm shocked I'm getting results like these from a "bargain basement" engraver. This is the best laser you can get for $400.
