Netting All the Way (Beading with Varvara)

Netting All the Way (Beading with Varvara)

Beautiful and unusual. Good instructions.

I've made many of the necklaces in this book. The patterns very are easy to follow and took less time than what was written .

Russian beadwork at its finest! This book includes 30 patterns; all of which are stunning! From the very first pattern I chose to make, I learned a TON. Bang for the buck is the name of the game in this title!

Prior to my working with Vivara's designs, I'd done netted pieces following patterns but only where those patterns were accompanied by step-by-step written word instructions. This book does NOT provide step-by-step instruction in the written word. Instead you are given a pattern only and each pattern contains only the repeating portion of the design. This is not at all a bad thing if you're looking for more of a challenge. It forces you to think harder which is a good thing if your goal is to eventually create your own designs; as mine is. Make no mistake though... Prior to introducing the individual patterns; the authors give you detailed info on netting techniques so even if you've never attempted these techniques before, you'll easily understand them.

As of this writing, I've only been beading for 4 months. After becoming bored with simple stringing two weeks into the exploration of my new beading hobby, I decided to dive into beadweaving. I fell in love on my first shot at peyote stitch and as a result have explored as many stitches as possible and set a course for myself to learn as much as possible in as little time as possible. This book focuses on the netting technique and in all the books I've read is ultimately one of the best teachers of it.

A prior reviewer here stated that when larger beads are incorporated into a design (those larger than seed beads which most designs focus on) that sizes were not given. This is true but you should be able to visualize the size needed just in looking at the pattern if you have any knowledge of bead sizing at all. The very first pattern I chose to work with, "Tokyo", called for 300 pearls. 3mm worked fine. In my opinion, anything larger would have been overbearing. If you're not sure which size you'd like better, pull out some 3mm and 4mm beads and lay them on the netted piece to see which size you think you'd like better. In these designs, the larger beads are always added after the netted piece is completed using what Vivara calls an "embroidery technique". That is, the larger beads fill in the holes in the netting.

Vivara's beadwork is gorgeous! Can't say enough good about the creativity! She is one talented lady! If you're new to beading, challenge yourself and pick this one up! You'll be glad you did! If you're not new to beading but still enjoy making jewelry based on someone else's designs, I'm sure you'll find the designs in this book very pleasing to the eye, fun to make and best of all; inspiring!

Well worth the purchase! Have fun!

This is one of my favorite beading books- the descriptions are clear, the results wearable. Whenever I wear one of my works from this book, I get so much positive feedback.

Absolutely gorgeous patterns using netting stitches. Necklaces, bracelets and earrings made of seed beads and faceted glass beads. Good directions and illustrations. Directions for each project even include the estimated time required to finish it.

    Description

This book is a practical guide for making over 30 necklaces, bracelets and earrings using netting stitch. It includes over 100 clear and descriptive diagrams, carefully detailing every step of the beading process.

This is a great book , only problem is that when you make the projects with faceted beads or any bead other than seed beads, The book does not tell you the size of bead. Like 6mm or 4mm . This information would really have helped. Also tried to email about this as the book says to, My emails have never been answered. So I finaly gave up trying to email.

Lovely designs; excellent illustrated instructions! Some of the designs are also available as individual patterns at the Beading with Varvara web site.

Well written, Beading from Russia is very different from other countries and the necklaces are superb.
