I love Klutz books. I've been a fan of them for years and received many as a teenager and have given quite a few as gifts. When I am asked to suggest gifts for kids falling between the ages of 8 and 13, I nearly always list a Klutz offering. Paper Beads is a great book for those falling in this 8 to 13 age group. It includes all the supplies and equipment necessary to make paper beads, which encourages creativity and patience. The beaded creations can then kept for personal use or given as gifts. The bracelets really are pretty enough to wear and give away.
Like all Klutz books, the directions are provided in a step-by-step manner and enhanced with photos. The gift recipient can immediately begin using the book since all supplies are included. I like Klutz books because they encourage activity and typically teach a skill that a kid can usually do without adult assistance. This promotes independence.
This would be a great book to give as a gift. I would recommend it and as well as other Klutz books.
My 9 year-old and 12 year-old granddaughters LOVE the paper bead book and papers. They like the fact the papers are double-sided so they can choose one paper, or alternate with a matching color. The instructions are easy in the book and the girls love the variety of ideas for different styles of jewelry. They have been rolling beads all afternoon. There is a sufficient amount of pre-cut papers, but the girls wish there were hundreds more. <smile> With the things we learned from the book, we can cut our own papers or do as the book suggests and use old magazine covers. I am very glad I purchased the book and kit. This will be an activity we will do many times over the years. I am going to buy another book to give to a different granddaughter for her birthday.
After I was not able to afford the glass beads I was accustomed to buying in the past, I decided to try paper beads and see how that went. This book is simple to read, the directions are very easy, and I am proud to be making jewelry with my handmade beads. I have branched out from the paper in the book to news paper, and magazines and I am very happy with the items included in the book. Its a fun and relaxing craft!
My daughter did this kit when she was 7. It comes with lots and lots of lovely precut paper strips. The instructions are clear and easy to follow. The tools are nice quality. The only downside to this craft is that it takes about half a minute to roll a bead, if you are fast. You can see how it would take a really long time to build up enough beads to make lots of jewelry. Still, lots of fun and she gets complements on her jewelry wherever she goes.
I got this as a gift for a young teen who loves crafts but has very few supplies of her own. She received it on a Saturday afternoon, and had made several bracelets by the next day. She is very happy with it, and excited that she can continue to use it with magazine pages, etc., when the included supplies are used up. Klutz books are always fun and colorful with well-written and well-illustrated instructions.

This is an instruction book with supplies for beginning paper beading. My niece, age 12, was very happy with the book as she was able start beading immediately. Very good illustrations for the rolling techniques. While adults might find this a bit scant, it is ideal for elementary to high school. Because it is self-contained, it is a perfect travel gift.
This book and the instructions were easy to follow. The glue was not the best, so plan to use another medium. From decoupage, to a glue stick, ot bead glaze, it is easy and really pretty to make these. Once you get the technique, you can use any paper. The tool is short, but really useful as it has a slit in the metal part that holds the paper while you roll. Overall, I would recommend this as a starter for anyone who is intersted in learning to make paper beads. But beware..you will get hooked and lose sleep making these and the ideas that come to mind.
I found out how much fun it is to roll paper beads. I use Christmas wrapping paper, bright foil papers, scrapbook papers, and print designs on regular 8/11 typing paper. This book helped me learn some stringing techniques. The internet sites on paper beading made the activity not just child's play, but very professional. It is a good starter kit.
Brilliant idea, nice kit. The one we received was a bit old, meaning that the glue was dried up. But any white (school) glue will do just fine.
fun book for any age. so simple to follow the directions. a child could do it or an old lady like I.
my 7 year old granddaughter was also able to follow the directions and turned out many beads to work with.
so, if you want a new project for your old paper get the book and get to work!!
