I love this engraver. I bought one awhile back (different brand) and it was a handle held without the cord. I didn't like it because it wasn't steady so i had to return it. I was skeptical of this one because the first one wasn't all great. I'm glad I bought this. I posted this on instagram and all my friends are asking about it. It didn't move as much (it's all about the grip and movement), compared to the first one I bought it was all over the place even though I had a good grip. It was also steady, the tip didn't fall out on me, and it did its job! i'm glad i purchased it! Its a keeper!
It works as expected. I lost my eyeglasses, and someone suggested that I engrave my replacements. It worked well when I engraved my phone number on the eyeglasses plastic stem. Easy to control and comfortable fit in my hand. I plan to engrave several items with my driver's license or phone number, as the police recommend doing that in case valuable items are stolen. (Caution: If you plan to do this, do not engrave your Social Security number. Police cannot trace the item back to you. But they can find you if you engrave your phone number or driver's license number.)
I got this initially for one purpose, and that was to personalize a picture frame. I had found the perfect frame that I wanted to gift, but I wanted it more personalized. So after looking, I got this. The picture frame was wooden and I was scared to practice on it since I didn't want to ruin it. So I used it on my kids's Melissa and Doug wooden toys and started practicing their names. After a few tries I got the hand of it. It's great to have it handy for other personalization. I'm looking forward to personalizing jewelry and more wooden toys and frames.
Tip: you have to write the name in pencil before hand on the item to make sure it's aligned correctly and not mess up.
This is my first written review EVER. I just have to say this product is AWESOME. I ordered it to replace my glass etcher, which was a tiny lightweight light-duty thing that I burned up in a couple of months.
This engraver is very heavy duty, and though it is a little bigger and heavier than my previous one, it is in no way cumbersome. I ordered some DREMEL diamond-tip bits and they work perfectly.
I am quite excited about using this, it is well-built and I believe it will last. Will update in a couple of months when I've done a million more glass etchings....
I put this little bugger to work right out of the box and began engraving everything I could get my hands on. The only thing that stopped me was the stern voice of my wife ordering me to stop. Tool works good and is very easy to set up and use.

for such an inexpensive unit this one has some features.
PROS:
- Templates for numbers and letters to trace including template for symbols: stars moons circles etc. templates are clear so aligning is 'ok'
- easy to grip, and you you insert the scribe pin via the provide hex wrench.
- on/off switch and
- unit fits well in hand.
CONS:
- NOISY, but whatever, it's not like you'll be in a library so go with it.
The engraver arrived on time and undamaged. I would say it is pretty descent for the price. The only reason marked it down, the stencils that come with it have barely enough gap to get the engraver in and are awkward to use. Some people may say that is not a reason to mark down (trivial), but it may help other folks.
The engraving tip is removable. I'm not sure why. I had my previous engraver for at least 20 years and the tip never got dull.
The one weak point is the tip...you use an allen wrench to tighten it into the socket. I didn't get it tight enough with the first use and the tip SHOT out of the engraver!! Luckily I was doing it on my kitchen counter and the tip hit the wall and stayed on the counter. If it had landed on my carpet, I would never have found it (until my vacuum did).
I like the adjustable speed, that's a nice feature.
I purchased this tool to engrave custom watch movements. Others had reviewed less powerful engravers as being insufficient. Perhaps those tools are what I need for this unit can easily engrave a watch movement, in fact it is too powerful on the lowest setting. This being said, I have no doubt it will satisfactorily engrave larger objects to your satisfaction.
I previously used a battery operated engraver. This one was a life saver. It has different speeds. The needle that come with it is pretty sharp and will cut through glass so it will be a good idea to purchase another set.
