I wrote these folks another review yesterday but did not see it posted therefore I am writing another one today because they deserve it. I have been using a Plating Kit from Hunter Products which has convenient Plating Pen type applicators for electroplating. The Pens serve as the Anode or Positive connection to the power supply, and there are 4 pens in the Kit; which are a degreaser, Nickel, Silver, and a 24k Gold plating pen. About 1 year ago, we went to use the kit and the Gold Pen was Bone Dry. We purchased a replacement for $130.00 and used it 1 time for a very small job. I went to use it last week and it was bone dry just as before. Whats interesting to note is that the other pens still have a good quantity of solution in them and they have never been replaced. Due to my frustration with this dried up applicator Again, I started searching for another means for plating and stumbled on these great folks at Gold Plating Services. I purchased a $99.00 4oz bottle of their 24k Brush Plating Gold with the thought of rejuvenating the dried up 24k Gold Applicator pen. I drilled a small hole near the top of the pen. With a syringe, I injected a bunch of distilled water into it to flush it out and waited for it to dry out. I injected 2.5ml of the new Gold solution (see photo) and then taped up the hole I had drilled. Next, I fired up the power supply and adjusted to the recommended 4 volts and began plating. I couldn't believe my eyes at how nice the results were! This is great that I found a new resource for Quality plating solutions. What is especially cool regarding my purchase is that the 4oz. bottle will allow me to refill the plating pen more than 20 times! No more spending $130.00 each time because of a dried up Gold applicator. These folks are saving me $$$ and the Gold plating results are awesome, especially compared to what I was previously using. All I can tell you is that I am SOLD, and you can't go wrong with this product!
With just three days of plating, this product provided enough gold to cover a head joint embouchure plate and all the keys of a fine silver flute as thickly as humanly possible. The gold plating is more durable than that of decades past as it is minutely alloyed with natural non-toxic hardening agents as described in their literature.
I've bought similar products from others before, but this IS superior. Before it even shipped, I contacted the seller to see if I could change my order to the 'gel' equivalent, which clings to the piece you're plating a little more. They responded immediately & changed the order right then, at no additional charge. Awesome service.
For practice, I started polishing & plating regular coins- nickels,quarters, etc. I began donating these to my favorite local church thrift store, where they immediately sell out at $8.00 apiece. The finish is so brilliant that they make excellent gifts, according to my church.
Now I've moved up to gun parts & automotive 'bling' accessories like brilliant gold plated engine bolts, thermostat housings, emblems, etc.
If you've thought about getting into plating as a hobby or pastime, don't shoot yourself in foot before you even get started by ordering a "cheaper" product. This product & the service is stellar. Oh- time to re-order already?
Good gold solution and leaves a good shiny finish if polished prior to plating.
I am fairly new at this gold plating stuff. However, I was very impressed with how easy this gold solution was to use. I loved the brightness of it. I had a few questions about what I could plate onto. Their customer service was great. They seemed to really help educate me on what I am doing and how to achieve the best results.
