I received these ball chains today. Was a little skeptical that you could get so many for a very small price. So I thought hum must be junk. What a surprise to find that they are not junky at all! Very well made and yes some were a little hard to connect, but I like that. Makes them even more secure and no worries about them coming apart while wearing. I love the fact that they are indeed made in the USA and is stamped USA. Gosh not many items are made in our country anymore. How sad is that. Anyhow I have not had to cut some of the links out but I can see that won't be a problem and since they are stainless steel they won't rust so you are free to wear them while in the shower with no fear of that or discoloration. A big plus. The balls at somewhat small but the chain is extremely strong. I would say you could wear a fairly heavy locket etc. without worrying the weight would break it. Great product at a fantastic price. Would buy again from this seller.
The #3 steel ball chain is heavier duty than the smaller ball chains you find on nail clippers. They have a dull gray finish, whereas the ones on the nail clippers have a chrome finish. These won't break that easily...in fact, because they are heavy duty, it makes it much to harder to clip on the ball, but it is doable. I will be using it to hang an ID tag instead of using the typical lower hanging lanyard where the ID tag constantly flips back and forth over to the backside. Clip the ID tag to the ball chain so the ID tag is always facing forward...great for reunions or meetings.
You can also use these to replace or extend the ball chains on ceiling fans . Perfect for dog tags or hang whatever pendant you want on it.
a bit longer than i thought (then again, i'm bad at measuring) but sturdy as all get out. i got these cuz i have a very special necklace i never take off, and when it was on its original chain, it got caught in between totes at work and i didn't realize it had been snapped off. (yes i felt the tug, but i thought it was from my id lanyard that had popped off, but that's detatchable for safety reasons). thankfully someone down the line saw it and new it was mine and returned it. not wanting to chance it again, i got these since they don't break as easily. i've caught my necklace between totes many times since, and its never snapped off. of course its considered a safety violation since its so long, but the point of this is how sturdy they are.
JUST A NOTE === These are the smaller diameter ball chain -- not the standards used for pull chains for lighting in america. ===
It is in the description, but just wanted to point that out, and hence 5-star, because it is exactly the product described-packaged and shipped well, and holding up well.
I wanted a pocket plumb line to check my 9-foot stepladder outdoors before I climbed it. I couldn't keep a pointed weight in my pocket, and string tangles. Ball chain hangs straight and doesn't tangle. At first I would hold it out with a pen clipped to the end for weight. Then I found that if I wear it as a necklace to keep an item like a pocket knife handy, the weighted loop makes a dandy plumb line.
For years, I've liked to plug a headset into a cordless phone and put the phone in my shirt pocket so I can walk and use both hands as I talk. Sometimes It would fall out. That was bad for the phone and the headset.
Plastic devices clipped to my belt haven't fared well. A ball-chain necklace is perfect. A belt clip slips on and off easily, and the chain holds the phone out of harm's way.
I may clip a pen to one of these necklaces so I won't misplace it.
The machine that formed the connectors may have been set wrong. Fastening and unfastening were very difficult. To spread them, I tried the blade of a paring knife, a small screwdriver, a finishing nail ground to a long taper, and a #6 wood screw. The screw got the best results, but a smaller one would work better.
It's not easy to spread the connectors because the metal is tough. Ball chain can be plain steel, stainless steel, or brass. Stainless steel is the strongest. This size is rated at 25 pounds.

These are some high quality ball chains. Just note that because of how sturdy they are, you probably won't get these to function as pull aways, which are the original reason I got these (in case your necklace gets caught its better than the chain breaks, rather than your neck/face if it were to pull you into a machine). I ended up having to get a Magnut to make it somewhat safer, but note that it requires much more than 10lbs of force (my Magnut is 10lbs of force). In fact, I can't get it to break away even if I yank on it forcefully while around my neck.
Exactly what I needed to extend my chain pulls. I like that the extensions are all premeasured with the connectors already on. One less step for me to perform and the price was the same as ordering a long chain and putting on the connectors .
I bought these so that my boyfriend could wear a couple things as a necklace. He had been using some old chain that wasnt stainless steel and it had tarnished and just looked awful. These replecements were perfect and the one he is wearing still looks brand new. Nice and shiny. The multipack was a great deal for the price, and having spares is never a bad thing!
Great price for so much standard size ball chain. Seems high quality to me, and MADE IN AMERICA! :) :) It really is 10 30” chains, or 25' of ball chain. I wasn't sure at first because of the small size of the package that it comes in, but it's all there. I'm using two chains hooked together (5') to chain safety box knives to shelving in a restaurant for each knife. Haven't lost them since!
I had a necklace that game with a "stainless" ball chain but it was junk and broke many times pretty quickly. I purchased these and replaced it. It is working very well and have had no more breaks, with 9 more to spare. How can you go wrong, I will have these for the rest of my life :-)
