Before ordering this ring, I read all of the reviews. I saw where some said that it wouldn't work on 14, 16 or 18 gauge rings and that the ring itself was to small to fit their fingers. I'm not going to dispute these claims as not justified but if they received the same tool that I did, they are wrong. First of all, I use exclusively 16 and 18 gauge rings and they will fit into 3 of the 4 slots that are on the tool. I buy mine from reputable jewelry supply sites so I know they are measured correctly. Secondly, the tool itself is probably a size 6 ring. It is not made to fit all the way onto your finger. It is made to go over the first knuckle of your index finger. Mine goes all the way to the second knuckle. It is made to just slide onto the end of your index finger and I use my thumb to steady it. If your index finger is larger than size 6 before or at the first knuckle, then it may be too small for you. Most people will not have any problem at all with this tool. As for the tool itself, WOW, it makes opening jump rings incredibly fast. I can open about 25-30 in a minute vs about 10-15 using two sets of pliers. Someone that has been doing this for awhile could probably go a lot faster than someone like me that has just been doing it a couple of months. Newbies would definitely benefit using this tool. I open about 40-50 rings to start then I leave the ring on my finger as I work and can quickly open or widen an open ring in seconds without ever picking up another tool. I highly recommend this tool for Chain Maille.
Small and mighty. When I couldn't find this ring I ordered 2 more! I make chainmaille and scalemaille jewelry. So I open and close hundreds and thousands of jump rings. This product is by far my favorite for opening a pile of them at a time.
I don't reccomend using it to close rings, mostly because getting the angle just right to line up and "click" the sides of the jump ring ring past each other means also digging the ring into your finger.
Pro tip: don't wear the ring all the way down your finger ... for one it's not possible on most of us. Ha. You wear it on your first knuckle. Also curl your hand into a fist instead of twisting the ring on an outstretched finger, and brace the ring with your thumb as you insert the jump ring so the ring holds still when you twist the jump ring in the slot. This will save you fatigue. Using this hand posturing I feel so much better than using 2 pliers and I go a lot faster.
Spread tip: when opening tons of jump rings, put the ring on your non dominant hand and pliers in your dominant. Use the ringed hand to pick up your jump ring and place it in the pliers with the cut facing correctly. Then insert the jump ring and twist. This meathod has me opening a ring in just under a second at a time!
A must have for opening and closing a jump ring. This is my first time I have added a jump ring to a pendant, and this tool made the job easy.
Simplify opening jump rings when making or repairing jewelry . I slip it over my index finger to the second knuckle, crook the finger to hold it in place, then insert the jumpring in the appropriate gauge slot and gently twist the ring open or closed with needle nose pliers. It’s my go to tool.
This thing is great! Granted it won't work for "heavier" metal rings like stainless steel, but they do work fantastic on aluminum and smaller gauge galvanized steel rings.
I do, however, knock one star off because there's only one size and it doesn't fit my fingers very well, the best I can do is the middle knuckle of my ring finger. It works fine for me, but my fingers aren't exactly huge! I have ordered two though, I plan on trying to slit one down it's side and spreading it slightly.
Regardless if you do large pieces this thing is great for pre-opening and -closing your jump rings! Highly recommended as long as your fingers aren't huge.

Feature Product
- The ring size is 6 1/4 (16.5mm Inner diameter)
- The slots measure approximately 14, 15, 16 and 22 gauge
- Simply slip it on like a ring
Description
Open and close jump rings with ease and free up a hand! with this convenient tool, using jump rings will be a snap-especially during Marathon chain Mille projects.
The first thing I thought when it fell into my hand was, "it's very nicely made." Solid, nice quality from the price. I read the reviews about The size and I do have slender fingers and while it does sit above the knuckle as a tool it fits perfectly on my ring finger. The more evenly spaced openings make a design. It also does a great job in its intended use. It's a 2for!!!
high-quality. good price. I thought I could use two at the same time, but ended up using pliers in one hand and the ring in the other. that's okay though, still achieved my goal which is quick and painless jump ring work. maybe others are more nimble. either way, would buy again.
I didn't know such things existed! For years I've been making do with a needlenose pliers and a tweezers. It doesn't go down past my knuckle as illustrated, but that doesn't matter. I'm putting charms on a charm bracelet, and In no time at all I got the hang of it and was able to open up a jump ring, insert the charm, hang it on the chain and close it again. Wonderful device.
Tried to find one locally. I have really thin, easily breakable fingernails. This will make life so easy for me, for what I want to do with my jewelry.
This ring is AWESOME! Saves me a ton of time opening and closing rings. It fit my forefinger just fine.. actually it will fit most of my fingers just in a different location. My fingers are not small if that helps you decide.
