I purchased three of the Carson magnifier/eye loupes (10x, 13x, 17.5x). All are plastic, but I was pleasantly surprised with the good materials and craftsmanship. (All are made in China.) In my tests, the Carson lenses were much better than those by B&L or others made in China. Objects are clear throughout the Carson lenses, not just in the very center (with a blurred dead zone taking up most of the surrounding view) as in many cheap plastic lens.
However, be aware of one problem if you need high need high magnification. These higher-powered lenses-- especially the “magnifiers”-- require the object to be ¼ to ½ inch away to be in focus. With this small focal length, the object has to be brought so close to the lens that it is hard to get enough light on the object to see well.
Quite good for plastic optics. The 6x magnification listed seems to be accurate, unlike many Chinese loupe seller's exaggerated claims. The LumiLoupe Plus series of Carson magnifiers have the advantage of being focusable while many of the other Carson stand magnifiers are fixed focus. Good magnification level for use with the micro print in the two cased volume Unabridged Oxford English Dictionary, the one that includes a rectangular magnifier. I can see the individual LCD pixels on my high resolution Dell LCD monitor with it. Quite large as the clear plastic base is 4.5" in diameter and lets in plenty of light. Works best with the eye as close to the lens as possible for maximum field of view and minimal distortion. In other words designed to be used as a low power loupe rather than a reading magnifying glass. This is true of almost all loupe type magnifiers. For normal book reading type magnification a lower power single lens magnifier or a Fresnel lens type page magnifier might be better unless the higher magnification of this is needed.
I am getting old I guess. My eyesight is going. I got this 11.5 power loupe so that I can read labels. It works great. You might need a horizontal light source. The focus is handy. I have ended up using this to check for mold on questionable looking food. And I've looked at a couple cute little bugs before returning them outside.
It is a quality item. I would also advise to get their pocket microscope for looking at weird stuff you pick off your body!
The viewfinder is nice and big, and the adjustable focus is a nice feature. Price is right. It's a tad on the large side relative to the folding loupe I used to use. That makes a minor difference if you travel, but nothing problematic. I use it for making manual print quality adjustments to wide format printers, and it has worked nicely for that.
Good quality loupe for reading reduced size construction drawings. The 6X is perfect for this purpose. The size is huge, much larger than I expected, but it covers more area and allows more light to enter into the viewer than smaller models. The down side is that it's way too bulky to carry around in a pocket and barely fits in a brief case. The focusable lens doesn't seem to have a lot of effect at this power.

Great loupe, I searched around for a good loupe which is always good to have around. You can regulate to the perfect zoom, the bottom keeps the object on sight and prevents your hand from shaking.
This thing is a lot bigger than I expected and that's awesome. I use this at school to look at the details of printing and typography and it's really useful
Very handy for my failing ability to see things up close, we use these to check the edges on our hunting and camping knives. You can see even the secondary bevel with it. Impressive little tool.
My wife uses her magnifier to inspect the smaller shells she collects at the beach. The magnification power is strong enough for her work, and the magnifier is a self-standing device so she can move the shell around and then rest the magnifier. Because it is self-standing she does not have to worry about any shaking or movement on her hands. She can use both hands to page thru the shell guide to identify her finds.
Very good! I work in printing and easy to see all defects in prints.
