Works great. I use them mostly for HR mild steel, so the tip definitely takes a beating. I wish they had a more reliable tip cover, like maybe a pop off cap like a sharpie. The little red rubber tip they come with is a pain to keep track of while using the scribe, but if you don't have the tip, it just makes holes in whatever you store it in.
I might just machine a cap for it or make a little metal storage case for them so I don't have to worry about them scratching up my tools and poking holes in them.
But other than the poor tip design, they scribes themselves are very sturdy, solid, and definitely worth the price. I expect them to last a very long time, and will for sure be buying again
HIgh quality carbide scribes and nice little tip cover to boot! Great buy for more than one item. I have used these to scribe aluminum sheet metal and have been able to "break" the metal on the scribe and then work it back and forth to separate it without using shears, nibbler, router etc to do sheet metal work on an old travel trailer restoration. Also works well on scribing formica and some hardwoods (if you go easy).
Great set of scribers. I do a lot of lay outs on stainless steel and cast iron before starting in with a graver. These do the job better than almost all of my other scribes. They also have a nice weight which helps keep the point down making the lines nice and even. Loved that it is sold as a set of 4. Glad I found these little gems and will buy again when/ if these tips ever dull.
I'm a dental laboratory technician and was looking for a lower cost alternative to a high-priced dental specific item. This fit the bill and seems to work great. I have not had a chance to use it extensively yet, but from my first few trials it is working for my needs.
My daughter loves these for etching for printmaking. Excellent quality and a superb value!
