I don't know what other people are having problems with, but I couldn't be more pleased with my new laser head. I bought a new high quality mirror and an 18mm lens for my new head. After my initial adjustments it's working way better than the old crappy head & lens. My calibration is off now so I need to recalibrate my software to my machine but that's not a big deal. I haven't permanently hooked up the air pump yet because I bought the wrong size hose. Oops! I temporarily hooked it up with the too-big hose and it works amazingly!
My experience:
- I didn't break a lens because I didn't screw it down too tight
- Nothing is coming loose because I put a tiny bit of blue Loctite on the threads
- I didn't need to machine a custom part for it to blow better because I have an 800gph pump that works great
- It came with an adapter ring so I could use the original crappy tiny lens if I wanted to, but why would you?
- I didn't have to adjust my bed because the lens is the exact same height as the original
- Some instructions would have been nice, but definitely not necessary. There's only 3 parts, 2 screws and a mirror clamp and the thing is already assembled, so all you have to do is take it apart and pay attention! There are also YouTube videos out there if you need a hint or guidance. I mean, if you're smart enough to configure, adjust and run a laser you should be smart enough to figure this out!
If I needed another one I would buy this again! It's not a car so don't torque things down too tight, use a little loctite to keep things together, and get an adequate air pump. Success!
This is well-machined and the air assist also works as expected to keep the lens clean and get some airflow onto the material. However, the actual hose connect is slightly flimsy, and tightening the head to the bracket on my K40 was a bit of trial and error to get it positioned properly so the air inlet points towards the coiled hose I use when fully tightened. Also note that the outlet for air is quite big, so you will want to go with a powerful air pump to get enough air onto your cutting surface - I went with an 800GPH model that does a good job. And don't forget that this needs an 18mm lens, so you will need to get a new one if all you have is the stock lens that comes with the K40.
Item is well made, and anodized a nice shade of blue.
The air-assist did not provide any changes to the performance of my laser and was actually a little worse when compared to the pair of airlines I rigged up from a 70l/min fish pump. I believe the air nozzle would be a boon with much higher air pressures, but is actually a detractor with the popular fish tank pump.
It uses a larger diameter lens than what came with my k40, 20mm instead of 18mm. The larger lens cuts much better for some reason. It has a finer kerf and better penetration so that i can run lower power and faster speeds for less scorching.
This is a good upgrade but I wish it had a few more features. An option to fit fish hose size tibing would be nice. Amazon recommedned it so I thought it would fit, but it doesn't. You need 5mm silicone tubing. Also it doesn't stay in place very well. That means you have to realign it any time it moves a bit. I wish it locked somehow. But overall, absolutely worth it. Air assist is a must.
One great thing about this they don't tell you, is that the bottom part ( Lens holder ) of this assembly will screw directly in to the stock mirror holder, so you don't have to worry about changing and adjusting the mirror unless the smaller aperture interferes with the laser beam.

Feature Product
Description
This is a laser head with air-assisted .
With the O-ring in the lens holder, the laser head now can install a 15mm diameter focus lens too.
The mount is capable of hosting a18mm/15mm diameter focus lens and a 20mm diameter reflection mirror.
Focus lens and mirrors are NOT included
Air plug outer diameter: 5.5mm.
This is a great replacement for K40 or D40 that comes with no air-assisted in original packing
NOTE: the laser head is now plated in blue color
This laser head allows you to easily equip your K40 with air assist, so it was great for someone like me who doesn't have a 3D printer. Please be aware that you'll need to purchase separately an 18mm focal lens as well as an air pump. All in all I was able to do this upgrade to my machine for about $80.
Happy with it so far for my k40, mirror was a good fit, bout 1mm small but the clip holds well. The stock 12mm lenses would not fit, ordered the recommended 18mm lense with 2" focal length and it fit perfect. The part feels fairly nice quality, had to be careful not to crossthread anything.
I like it overall, though I'm not totally sold on the grub screw that holds the nozzle in place. However, it does what it claims to, adds air assist to your K40 as a direct replacement. Be prepared to realign your mirrors. Good quality.
Love it. One issue, the screw that came installed to hold the air assist portion on the head was not quite right on the end and wouldn’t screw-in tight enough to hold it in place. To fix this I ground the end of the screw down to get to the good threads and it worked perfect. Still giving it 5 stars because it is a great deal at $20 and serves its purpose well.
This head is awesome. It can hold different sizes of lenses if need, the air blown into keeps the lens free from dirt, the air again blown downwards keeps the material from burning at slow speeds, and it doesn’t catch on fire like my 3D printed on did. It is also easy to assemble and looks amazing
