I am very pleased with this product. The workmanship is of high quality. There are no inclusions, abrasions, scrapes or defects. The lid aligns flush with the top of the crucible, without gaps. The lid is not tight - it does slide a little bit... but the play is less than a half milimeter. That is good, because it means it will not get stuck into the crucible. This product is exactly as described, 40mm high and 40mm diameter. 40mm is 4cm. This translates to 1.57 inches...
wounderfull
My mom just bought this for me, it's perfect for my Saturnian alchemy! Anyway, for the people who complained...they gave this bad feedback due to ignorance. In the title IT STATES it is 40 X 40mm!!! Every single other country except for the U.S. is familiar with metric scale. I have no idea why! It's one of the most frequent and standard measurements used in almost every single application. It's not that difficult to google 40mm is how many inches, if you really don't know what mm are and have never seen and cannot locate a ruler.
The ruler in the photos is NOT inches, LOOK CLOSELY.
NOT EVERYTHING IS MEASURED IN BIG, FAT, PRESCHOOL SIZED INCHES PEOPLE!
And my last everyday living tip for you..
DO NOT MELT METALS FOR HOURS AT A TIME IN THIS!!!!!!!
This is not industrial grade engineering machinery or built for metal manufacturing/refining factories. It is bound to melt, cause serious burns or damage surfaces it is placed upon when it reaches higher melting points. Ovens are not a stable source of heat, you cannot accurately gauge how hot the oven is or will get. If you are trying to melt massive amounts of metal then you need to be using equipment that is actually fit for the application. This is for SMALL infrequent projects, such as melting pure gold, silver, or other low-melting point alloys to make a coin sized item using a torch in your backyard. That is what this is for. It is not for putting corrosive or industrial grade elements in it for hours at a time.
If your gold, silver, pewter, etc; is taking hours to melt, then it is not pure! It is probably mixed with higher amounts of other alloys. Always have specs on whatever metal you are purchasing. Most places will provide this if you ask. Many metals today are manufactured oversees and have a much higher content of mixed alloys then what you believe.
Before attempting to melt any metal, please do your research and obtain adequate information on what you're doing. You can contact almost any engineering corporation and ask to speak to an engineer or even stop by in person and ask them for advice or knowledge on what you plan to do, and they will give you great information on these applications. Metal working websites and chemists are another great source for this information.
