I was getting very frustrated with the damage that occurred on the edges of discs I used on my metal dapping blocks.
So I decided to try something softer (wood) as a means of accomplishing the dapping process and minimizing the damage.
This block works great with the softer metals and I don't have to spend time fixing the damaged edges.
While I'm not getting rid of my metal dapping blocks I definately needed to add this to me tool kit. Try it out and you will see.
Plus the cost is reasonable
This is a great doming block for someone whom is just getting started with metalsmithing and/or jewelry making. It's wood, so keep in mind that it's only useable on soft metals such as pure silver (not silver alloys), copper, gold, aluminum, brass etc. Thinner gauges of material of course. It will not mar the finish if you are cautious. I, personally like it because it's compact and fits well into my clockmakers house call box, and I've used it for repairing dents in plates or even for truing wheels. I steel dapping set wouldn't work as well in this regard as it would either mar the material, or over work the piece if you're too aggressive. For the price, this far exceeded my expectations. I'll most likely purchase another set as a spare very soon.
This wooden doming block gets the job done for small projects. It's built pretty solid and puts a slight dome on metal pieces easily. The cutouts are a bit larger than they appear in the pictures, for comparison a penny is swimming in the smallest one, you could easily fit a half dollar.
I wish the doming was a little deeper, that's my only complaint.
Overall great beginner block for the money.
I bought this for use with polymer clay, and it's really nice. The first piece I made, I thought the clay was stuck and I was momentarily frustrated, but then suddenly, the piece popped out and was smooth and lovely. I was surprised and pleased, and got busy making more. My pieces are smooth and uniform, and are great for gluing two together. Way better than using lightbulbs!
This Dapping Block was one of the least expensive I could find. Since I did not know what to look for in a dapping block, having never used one before, I went on price alone. It is a great block and it has had the right size indentions for all of the metal blanks I use. If you are going to use large metal blanks you may need a larger block but you should be able to tell that by the measurements given in the description.

I saw a tutorial on YouTube of how this item works on round jewelry blanks. It is fairly easy to use and gives my pieces that extra something I didn't know I was missing. This is a great value and I highly reccomend it.
I love this dapping block. It works beautifully and I like the two punches. Nice quality and arrived very quickly.
As described. thanks Just what I needed.
Exactly as expected. A good capping block for the price. A friend who works in silver has one she uses frequently.
Love it. Amazing quality for the price. I use this set to dome 22 ga. and thinner copper and sterling discs for jewelry fabrication and have sucessfully domed reasonably thin copper washers.
