This product works by shooting a light into your diamond and testing the refraction. However, the results can be a bit wonky on smaller diamonds or heavily included diamonds, hence my -1 star.
The unit is very lightweight and made of a cheap plastic, I worry that if you drop the unit on the floor it will break. The included directions are difficult to understand, but it is important that you set the dial correctly or else it will misread your stone.
I would say 80% of the time it's accurate. Overall, you get what you pay for.
It's easy to use as you follow the instructions by the carat of the stone. I also use this to test my Ruby and sephire, those two stones has less hardness and tempiture rate than diamon, if you follow by the carart this little thing works out, just find it interesting my garnet stone even have higher rate than my other expensive stone. By the way, the quality of the kind of the Jade also affect the number, but usually it could not reach the red level.
The bad things I need to complain is this one is lighter and felt pretty cheap made, and the one I used in a jewelry store normally much more heavier and did not need to adjust the carat and tempiture.
Overall, it's a satisfied product with a good price.
Adjusting the sensitivity of the unit is not well explained in the instructions, but overall this proved to be quite accurate and easy to use. The metal buzzing feature is a plus for small stones that are mounted.

It took a couple of times to work out how to use it ( Temp) but once I worked out that it worked well. I tested it on a known diamond and then on the unknown stones.
