I have an on-demand gas hot water heater mounted outside on the wall. The only issue I have with it is that the piping to and from it outside the wall tend to freeze in severe cold weather. It's happened just twice in the last 4 years but that can cause real damage to the heater if the pipes burst. Since this is so close to the burners, regular insulation would not be wise. This piece, even though small, folds over and installs at the base of the heater and, hopefully will help keep the lines from freezing in the future.
