SE MI126-10 10x Magnification Single Lens Clip-On Loopy

SE MI126-10 10x Magnification Single Lens Clip-On Loopy

This single glass lens loopy has 10X magnification, and it clips securely onto one of my reading glasses side frames.

I bought this unit because I do a lot of jewelry-making, with small beading, and this unit especially helps me deal with crimping fittings, to secure various closures. This unit works very well.

In order to use this, I had to learn to shut my non-dominant eye, just like a jeweler! After I could do this, I was making necklaces, bracelets, and earrings much more quickly.

I've been using this type of clip on loupe for maybe 35 years. I'm not a jeweler or watch maker, I'm just have very poor vision and use them for any kind of close up work like soldering electronics or reading small print.
I used loupes made by a small company in Minnesota that were far superior to these but the guy that made them retired or possibly passed away. They were also more expensive. The ones I liked were $42 plus shipping.
The metal work on the SE loupes is just fine and seems to hold up over time.
The glass is pretty bad. Not optical quality and not very well polished.
I've ordered several and all of them have tiny scratches and everything looks a little cloudy.
You get what you pay for and at $6 I really can't complain. They get the job done for me but I miss the high grade crystal clear lenses I used to get.

I don't do a lot of close-up work, but when I do - from tool projects to reading ludicrous small print on electronics devices to get serial numbers to...you name it, I want something that a) works, b) doesn't make me use my hands, and c) makes me forget it's even there. This little device arrived much smaller than I thought. I was thinking "clunky" and it was more "precisely utilitarian". It is very light weight - extremely so. I can't understand some of the reviews about it not clamping properly and slipping. I had no such problems. I had thought about getting the double lens version, but since I wear reading glasses I figured this would do the trick - and it did/does, in spades. Regardless of price (and it is very inexpensive), it is perfect for my needs. Highly recommend.

Although sold in the the "toys and games" section, this is a useful tool. My aging eyes don't focus as close as they used to and tinkering with small things can be really frustrating without optical assistance. This loupe clips to my glasses and stays out of the way until I need it. It's great for examining small parts, the edge on a blade, or threading a needle. For me, it focuses at about 1.75 inches and covers an area about 1 inch in diameter,
I took off 1 star because it's not a high-quality piece of glass. If I needed it every day, I'd spend more to get more. For my needs, and the price, it's bargain.

I actually bought this to attach to a Steampunk top hat as part of a decoration. My mother broke her necklace. My reading glasses were not strong enough to fix the clasp and I couldn't hold a magnifying glass and fix the necklace at the same time. Guess what...This no longer a "toy". This now part of my jewelry making tools. I bought another one to put on the hat. I don't recommend it as a toy, it is fragile, but boy does it work as a loupe!!!! It stayed hooked to my reading glasses and did the job!!!!

Thought I already wrote a review on this, but if you want more, fine. I like this item, it is easy to use, when you just need a little more magnification at a critical point in close up work, then easily push it aside for less critical work ,not having to remove one set of glasses for another.

I've purchased these a few times, for some worker friends, and because I dropped it a few times, and it chipped. but that was my fault. These are GREAT tools for the machinist not wanting to run to the microscope every time you need to check a part feature.

For the price I was expecting something that would easily be bent or broken.

But I was suprised on how well this is made. The magnifier itself is basic with distortion, so nothing special and as expected. But the holder is very high quality. The metal is sturdy and does not bend by simply touching it, and the finish has a nice brass-like gleem.

The adjustment screws have a nice delicate precision, so it looks like a more expensive device.

Well worth it. and there is no cons to this, you will get more than you expected.

Bought this in the run-up to the Ohio State Coin Show as my loupe had gone walkabout (needless to say, it turned up the day this arrived in the mailbox). I took this to the show anyway, since I wanted to see whether it was more convenient -- and it is. The construction is solid, the grip on my glasses is good, the focus is great. The lens slips periodically, but it adjusts easily enough. Well worth the money.

These things actually magnify at long distances...which was a pleasant surprise. I had to shim the clip to make it fit on a pair of glasses, but once that was done they stayed right where I wanted them to. Very good buy for a quickie steampunk party.
