Works for what I purchased it for which is work hardening jewelry findings made with wire. Block has strong noxious odor but I didn't want to spend the money for a steel block so I can live with the smell.
After trying many ideas and much thought, I decided to buy a couple of these jeweler's bench blocks, although I am a woodworker and not a jeweler. When using a hand plane, the piece of wood being planed must be held in place. If that's a clamp, a bench dog, a hold-down or something else made of a hard material, the hand plane blade could be damaged if there was contact. I am working to design a system that will use these blocks (or pieces of them) as a stop for wood while it is being planed. These blocks are exactly what I was looking for.
This Jeweler's Rubber Bench Block is great for jewelry making but it has a very strong odor. I suggest you also get a Steal Metal Block to put on top of the rubber block when hammering jewelry. Have Fun making jewelry if you purchase this Bench Rubber Block.
Works very well under an AC unit to keep it balanced on a cement block that had sunk in the ground.
This is mainly for jewelry making, but I use it go leather work also. When stamping and tapping in stitching holes, it cuts down on noise. Works great if you are apartment dweller so you don't disturb neighbors.

makes hammering a lot quieter and I use for jewelry making! Its a good size and works well for what I need it for!
It came without any dents and fits solid under my metal block. It also works well for when I just need the rubber base and hammer for working with my jewelry.
