I am so glad that I took the time to look back over my orders for 2013 to see if I could find this. I have used both the soft magnesium bricks and charcoal bricks and this kind lasts the longest. I didn't have any issues with breaking apart during shipping. There was some grit in the bag but no biggie.
What's to say? It's a brick. It does an excellent job at being a brick. It's a brick. Really though, it heats nicely, stays cool except for where direct fire is. It does crumble easily. Dust everywhere from it.
I guess all fire brinks are about the same. Heat up nice and gets the job done. FYI, I got a ceramic tile to put under it just for a safety measure not to get my work bench hot.
If anything it's able to take more than the suggested heat range (though it does begin to melt a little bit at that point)
Soft, easy to crack or chip, but holds heat up to 2000
