I have a corded engraver, but the cord makes it cumbersome to use. I love this little engravor becasue it is as easy to use as a fat pen. The electric model I have is like a little jackhammer. It reciprocates in and out. This little tool spins, and it engraves like a Dremel Moto Tool. But the small size, light weight, and absense of a cord make all the difference in this being so useful for engraving. It took me hardly any time to engrave my MAGLITE S4D016 Heavy-Duty 4-D Cell Flashlight just above the on/off button. It did a very nice job. On a black surface like the Maglight, I recommend first writing the letters in a silver laundry marker pen and then engraving over the laundry marker once you get the letters to look like you want them with the laundry marker. I had to wipe off the laundry marker a couple of times to get it just right -- then I engraved. Once you engrave, though, that's it. You can't erase those marks, so get it right with a marker first.
for the cost, it works wonders. goes thru batteries like it's nothing when engraving wood (bark.) i'm new at engraving so maybe it's my technique. oh well, give it a go before you go pro. Use the force.
I love it. It works pretty much like a pen and I have tried it on on glass, metal, plastic, wood and other hard surfaces. Very practical.
Engraver is very simple. Did as other reviews suggested about practicing and marking with black marker. Used the engraver over the black marker writing and love the engraving. Would suggest this to others and do the same steps. Engraver is truly like a pen with practice using the engraver.
I used this on Aluminum plates and on wood. It's hard to control, but it does engrave it well

Feature Product

- Needs two AAA batteries- not Included
- Make sure batteries are removed before installing or changing bits
Description
Comfortable contoured grip allows for greater control. Compact pen-like design. Battery operated. Hold the engraver as you would a pencil, with either your thumb or forefinger over the button. The button is very sensitive, so only a light touch is required to activate it. Touch the bit to the item to be engraved.
easy to use, we stopped using our $2000 engraver and now use this exclusively!
I love it. Very easy to use. I wish it came with a DVD instructional video for beginners in engraving
great item would buy again, i bought 2 and been using them non stop
It's a good little product. Easy to open. I've not tried it on Jewelry but I used it on other things..namely the knife i use to chop vegetables. It's a bit sensitive at first so I suggest learning to control any jitters or anything before you use it on anything important. But it works and it does what it says, so I'm super pleased to have one. :D
We are engraving numbered tags for inventory/survey work. They work great for this, plus we've engraved a few tools and other household items to make it easier to recover them in the future if we experience a burglary (unlikely!).
