I would most definitely recommend this book to anyone interested in learning off loom seed bead work. Let me be perfectly clear, here. This book is easily suited to the beginner, intermediate, or the advanced seed bead artist. However, if I had picked up this book when seed beads terrified me at the very thought of using thousands of beads in one piece, I would have run screaming for the hills. BUT, now that I have found a way to work with my nerve damage and other issues, I find that seed beading is quite possibly the most soothing form of art and therapy available. Though, I wouldn't go so far as to say it's cheaper than a doctor. LOL. Anyway, if you just want to make a few pieces with large stones or gems, etc, this is not the book for you. However, if you are ready to take the leap into the abyss of seed beads and finding seed beads in your hair, your bed and other strange locations, this book should be your first stop (followed very closely by about fifteen others that I can highly recommend depending on what area you decide you'd like to lean).
Well put together book, I am a new beader. I have amassed quite a collection of great Beading books, I will count this one in as one of my favorites. Easy instructions well laid out, spiraled bound and very easy to read. Every bead book often give you instructions but sometimes when beading you need more than just instructions, Mastering beadwork gives you the insight of what can happen when you alter a step. Carol's "Did You Notice" , "Try this" and her hints made me understand patterns and taking a chance on being different. From this book I have created several bracelets and don't every want to stop learning.. Thank You Carol Cypher this book is a keeper...I've gone bead crazy...
Such a great book. Each successive project builds upon skills learned in the last project. Helped make sense of what I had already read.
Beautiful photos and step by step instructions. Well written and beautifully packaged in a spiral book that will lay flat while you are working!
If you can only afford 1 book about "off the loom" beading...........THIS IS THE 1 TO BUY!
This is the second time I've bought this book to give to a friend interested in beading. There is an introductory to the supplies and materials needed in the front part of the book. Each chapter focuses on one particular off loom bead stitch and gives you projects that progress in difficulty as you continue on in that chapter. There are plenty of color photographs within. I feel this is a good primer as this features the stitches mostly used in publications like Beadwork or Bead and Button magazine.
"Mastering Beadwork" can stand on its own.
I also purchased "The Absolute Beginners Guide: Stitching Beaded Jewelry: Everything You Need to Know to Get Started" (which was created by the staff at Bead and Button magazine) the same time I ordered "Mastering Beadwork" in the event that my friend has any other concerns, questions, or merely another diagram or picture to reference from.
Carol Cypher really knows her stuff. The book is spiral bound and has great directions and photos. She teaches the why along with the how. She is a master of all things beadweaving and an excellent teacher. This book is great for both the novice and the advanced beader.

Description
Based on years of teaching experience, this informative handbook presents easy-to-understand instructions with sidebars to help students master beading techniques. Each of the 13 beading techniques are first explained in detail, then further explored with projects to enhance the beader's skills and confidence. The 63 projects included--ranging from bracelets, necklaces, rings, and earrings to findings, closures, beaded beads, and other beaded objects--teach a single project or technique arranged to build skill. Appealing to beaders of every level, this classroom-in-a-book will supplement the information acquired in beading classes, expand confidence in beading techniques, and infuse work with inspiration.
This book was highly recommended on YouTube by beaders. The pictures are vivid, instructions are easy, and lots of free projects. Worth the money.
A good book for those wanting to learn some new techniques, not so much for specific projects. (A pro for me, as I do not like to copy.) The only major con is that the author has a very specific way of describing things that can be kind of confusing. Maybe it's because I am mostly self-taught that I was thrown off by the difference between "passing back through" and "pass through again." At any rate, I found this book to be a great resource for mastering techniques, as the title suggests. I would not recommend to a beginner.
Mastering Beadwork: A Comprehensive Guide to Off-loom Techniques
This book is THE most comprehensive beading book I've been able to find. The instructions and diagrams are clear and understandable for all the most popular beading stitches. The patterns included are varied, unique and interesting. Includes great tips, sections on color, tools, bead types and techniques for adding new thread, using lampworked beads, troubleshooting and using crimp end findings.
Overall, the best book on beading I've seen so far. LOVE IT!!
I know, more high remarks for a book before trying any of the projects. I have read all of it and the nice color samples cannot, and will not elude me as soon as I am over my disability.
Myself being a newbie to beading this a "must" book to have.
Masting Beadwork by Carol Cyper ([...]) is a well written, detailed, colorful hardcover, coiled seam beading book.
The first few chapters walk you through as to what you need & what you need to know. Directions in the book are easy to follow along, colorful photographs, with detailed directions.
I highly recommend this book to anyone who is new to beading or anyone who wants to experiment with some new patterns in beading.
