I like this machine a lot, I use it all the time. But it's not for the novice. You need to have a good gemstone knowledge before using this. It doesn't tell you the exact gemstones and very little gemstones are listed. But if you know the hardness of the gemstones or use a gemstone book. You can definitely tell the difference of the gemstones. It can tell you the difference of Blue Topaz and Aquamarine. The difference of Rhodolite garnet Pink tourmaline and Pink Spinel. Just because I know the hardness. Just like any tools you need to know what you're doing with it.

This instrument arrived today and I was able to get right to the gemstone identifications. It is very user friendly and has a clear display. I have non-diamond gemstones in my collection and identifying them for verification purposes is important for my documentation and record keeping. Also, I have already discovered some stones sold to me as gems actually tested as glass! Whew! I would recommend this tester highly!
